  • June 2010, Richard Armstrong's article, Wait a Minute...I Thought the Fifth Amendment Only Applied in Criminal Court! A primer on the Fifth Amendment in civil litigation, was published in the VTLA Journal, Vol. 22, No. 1.
  • May 21, 2010, Cathy Welsh, Chair of the Harrisonburg Rockingham County Bar Assocation Mentor/Mentee Program, organized and hosted a kick off lunch for all newly assigned Mentors & Mentees.
  • May 20, 2010, Lenhart Obenshain hosted a Spring Reception in Charlottesville at Open Space a business which provides community-centered collaboration spaces to the new economy's nomadic independents. Their impressive facility on Second Street in Charlottesville provided an excellent location to greet and thank firm friends and clients.

  • May 13, 2010, Lisa Hawkins presented a speech, and participated in a panel on “Agricultural Conservation Easements:  Protecting Farmland and Local Food Systems” at the Annual Virginia Land Conservation Conference in Williamsburg, sponsored by Virginia United Land Trusts coalition (VaULT).  Other panel members include representatives of the Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Farm Bureau Federation and Valley Conservation Council.

  • February 27, 2010, John Flora was the lead presenter at a seminar at Virginia CLE’s 14th Annual Advanced Real Estate Seminar entitled The Race for Alternate Energy.  Mr. Flora discussed his legal efforts on behalf of Virginia’s first wind farm in Highland County, Virginia.

  • October 13, 2009, Cathy Welsh spoke on the benefits and challenges of Diversity at a Chapter 6 Networking Event which was held from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. at the Earth and Tea Café in Harrisonburg. The event was sponsored by FORWARD-Adelante (a new bilingual business journal focusing on diversity and entrepreneurialism in Virginia).
  • October 7, 2009, Cathy Welsh was the moderator and a speaker at the Shenandoah Valley SHRM Supervisor Seminar,which was held at Blue Ridge Community College’s Plecker Center. The seminar focused on the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and Maintaining a Union-free Environment.
  • September 25, 2009, John Flora was a speaker at the annual conference of the American Agricultural Law Association (ALAA).  The AALA is a national professional non-profit organization focusing on the legal issues affecting agriculture.  Mr. Flora spoke on the topic, “Farm Transition and Estate Planning.”

  • June 2009, Richard C. Armstrong’s article How to Recover When the Treating Physician Won't Get on the Bus, was published in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Journal.
  • June 11, 2009, Cathy Welsh participated in the Harrisonburg Rockingham County Vision 2020 Program at which business and community leaders took a comprehensive look at where Harrisonburg and Rockingham County will be in the year 2020. The goal of the program was to promote long-range strategic planning activities among key organizations and community stakeholders.
  • May 15, 2009, Jeffrey G. Lenhart presented “Auditor’s Liability- How You Can Be Sued- Let Me Count the Ways” a continuing education program to a group of accountants in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Update was sponsored in part by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Servicesand Virginia Farm Bureau. Ms. Hawkins presented on the topic of conservation easements.
